Data Collection

Trained teams, appropriate instruments, and active supervision while the research is in the field.

What this is

Data Collection is the execution of the fieldwork defined by the research design. AcadStat can provide trained enumerators, supervisors, and field teams appropriate to the study population, setting, and research requirements.

We work across settings that may include communities, healthcare facilities, schools, workplaces, markets, organisations, and other research environments. The field approach is determined by the study rather than by a fixed collection model.

Digital data collection can be implemented using platforms such as REDCap, KoboToolbox, and ODK, where appropriate to the project. Field procedures, participant engagement, supervision, quality checks, and escalation processes are established before collection begins.

When you need it

You need Data Collection when the research design is ready and reliable primary data needs to be generated in the field.

You may also need it when an existing study requires additional fieldwork, when collection is already underway but requires stronger supervision and quality control, or when your organisation has designed the study but does not have the field capacity to execute it.

What AcadStat delivers

AcadStat can manage the field operation from preparation through completion.

This may include field team recruitment and training, instrument deployment, field supervision, participant coordination, daily quality review, monitoring of collection progress, identification of data quality issues, and secure transfer of completed records.

Where digital collection is used, we can configure and deploy appropriate instruments and establish procedures for monitoring completeness, consistency, and other quality indicators while collection is still underway.

The objective is not simply to collect a large number of records. It is to produce data that can be traced to the research design and trusted when the analysis begins.

How the work proceeds

AcadStat matches enumerators, interviewers, and supervisors to the population, language, and setting of the study. Training covers the instrument, the protocol, consent, and how to record and escalate problems in the field.

Field procedures are established before collection begins: how participants are approached, how interviews or observations are conducted, how supervisors review work, and how issues are raised the same day.

Where digital collection is used, AcadStat configures and deploys the instrument, then monitors incoming records while teams are still in the field. Completeness, consistency, duplicates, and unusual patterns are reviewed as collection proceeds.

Daily quality review is used to correct problems while interviewers are still on the assignment. Completed records are transferred securely so the dataset that arrives for management can be traced to the design.

Where the study is run as an AcadStat project, collection progress and quality signals are visible while the work is in the field. Locations and teams follow the protocol in hand.

You need Data Collection when the research design is ready and reliable primary data needs to be generated in the field.
